Why I Chose To Study Media
Signing up for a college or university course can be a daunting task, especially if it's your first time doing so. But knowing what you want to do and that you're passionate about the course you choose can ease the tension.
I, however, was always unsure about what I wanted to do in life for quite a while. Even when I was little I wasn't My mind would constantly jump between different career choices: one minute I wanted to be an archaeologist and the next I wanted to be an author, until soon I was venturing into subjects I had no experience in!
It was a great big mess... until I discovered my passion for English. I knew that I could settle with anything in which my writing abilities were put to the test. But even with this objective in mind, I still struggled to find a good course that involved English. The closest I could think of was A-Level English, but the exam grades made me kiss that plan goodbye. Then I discovered Media, and upon further research I decided I was going to be a scriptwriter.
One of the big appeals for Media for me was the idea that everyone seems to have a role they are skilled at. I knew mine was writing. But there are camera operators, video and sound editors, concept artists and many more all in one project. Now I'm not the best with handling group projects at all, but even someone like me can understand that Media isn't a one-man romp. Each member of the team has a part to play in the making of a film.
Another appeal of Media, and one that resonates with me as a writer in particular, is the creativity that goes into a media project. I've already spoken about the different technical minds that you see coming together, but the creative minds are just as if not more important. The human brain is so vast that it has the potential to come up with an infinite number of ideas and concepts, and it's these very concepts that has put creative directors such as George Lucas and Steven Spielberg in the position of fame that they are in today.
And that's why I chose to study Media. This was just a quick first blog as a substitute for the Induction blog since I missed Induction, but what can you do.
