L2 Film Report
Project
title: "?"
The
idea: The initial ide was to have the bottle (the film's central plot point) be a time capsule. The time capsule was repeatedly dug up and buried throught time, and featured many objects from the different time periods. Anyone who digs the capsule and retrieve an item would be sent back in time to when that item was buried. The idea was very interesting, but it turned out to be too green-screen focused, and thus it was scrapped.
The second idea was to have the bottle contain clues alluding to mysterious "treasures". These treasures would be hidden in different areas around the college, and it is the job of the main character (played by yours truly) to look for them.
Target
Audience: The film is aimed towards everyone, especially those who like mystery films and comedies.
The
final selected design solution: We settled with the idea of the bottle containing clues that lead people to the treasures, those being different items of clothing). The hiding places were later limited to areas around the Media block specifically to save time and as to not bother anyone around college.
Pre-Production
material: I designed a short 6-panel storyboard that outlined the main plot: the main character finds the bottle, he finds the clues alluding to the clothes, he looks around to find the clothes, gets changed in the clothes and then walks away with swagger in his step. We signed a permission slip to take a camera and tri-pod. We visited the prop room used by Drama students to collect the outfit I would wear in the end of the film.
Production: All of the scenes in the film were shot in chronological order. The first scene we filmed was the outside scene in which the protagonist finds the bottle. We filmed a brief segment of me sat at a table reading the clues aloud which would later be dubbed over, though the audio was scrapped later on. The scenes that followed were short scenes of me visiting different rooms (the corridor, the studio, the changing room, the sound both and C009). I then had to (awkwardly) change clothes for the final scene, where I leave the building wearing the finalized outfit.
Post-
production: We used Adobe Premiere to edit the different scenes together. The others in the group decided to insert a certain song as the backing track that plays over my scenes, much to my embarassment.
