Viral Video Report
Project title:
National Space Centre, Leicester
The idea:
The video is a compilation of clips of the different exhibits found in the space centre. There is no voice-over, but I plan to add text that explains what the center has to offer and what is happening on-screen. The video is also accompanied by a slow calm song to capture the driftiness of space.
Research:
Target Audience:
The age rating I want to cater to is people around 13-18 years old who are either interested in astronomy or who want to learn more about space.
Video development:
I decided I didn't want to do a voice-over (once again) as I was (still) unconfident with my voice. Because of this, I had to find a way to create my advert without the voice-over. I resorted to using just visuals and music to convey the message I wanted to.
Sadly I wasn't able to make it to the space centre to record my own footage, so I settled on using various clips from other videos covering the same place.
Video script / SB:
Original storyboard for the video.
Video production:
Since I couldn't record my own footage of the space centre, I compiled a list of clips I had found from the internet:
To create the outro, I added a text box and a PNG of the centre's logo and added a fade out effect to the segment. I also added an adjustment layer to tamper with the lighting and quality of some shots.
Video post-production:
After cutting and rearranging all the clips I needed, added the music in.

I cut part of the beginning so that it fit with the video better. I doing this, I accidentally made a note in the song sync up perfectly with the reveal of the logo in the video.
To create the outro, I added a text box and a PNG of the centre's logo and added a fade out effect to the segment.

I also added an adjustment layer to tamper with the lighting and quality of some shots. Some shots were darker than others, so I used the adjustment layer to fix that.

Testing of the video in situ:
The people I showed enjoyed the presentation of the video. They liked the footage used and said that David Bowie's Space Oddity complemented the atmosphere very well. They also thought my editing was good, praising the opening shot of the spaceman being on-key with the music. The only major drawback was with the lack of a voice-over or captions, it just looked like a collage of out-of-context clips and would leave some people a bit confused.
Evaluation:
I enjoyed producing this video and thought it came out well, though I am in the process of building upon it to make it better. I will be adding captions to better explain what the viewer is seeing, and maybe I'll even add a voice over if I have the available time.

- To get the feel of how an advert is played out, I decided to look back on my favourite adverts. One of my favourites is the Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina of Time advert with Robin Williams. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bINUfbLV_0M). This advert carries a lot of emotional weight, something that I briefly considered for my advert.
- Another favourite advert of mine is the Halo 3 "Believe" advert. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tuRvqbNWwz4) This advert is outstanding because it conveys such a powerful message through wordless storytelling. This is something that I thought I should capture with my video.
- I also looked for an article detailing how to make a good advert. The article I found (https://www.oysterstudios.com/what-makes-a-good-advert/) included a ton of information on what kind of impact should be left by an ad, which I tried to take on board when producing my own advert.

Since I couldn't record my own footage of the space centre, I compiled a list of clips I had found from the internet:
- A majority of clips used are from the YouTube video "'National Space Center' Leicester, England" by Kevin Kilpatrick (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Per5mblNQ_Q&t=3s).
- The opening scene of the centre's planetarium was a segment of the video "Sir Patrick Moore Planetarium @ National Space Centre" by Teresa Maguire (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g8irZ90-aNM)
- The clip of the rocket lifting off at 1:09 was from a video called "Space Shuttle Launch Audio - play LOUD (no music) HD 1080p" by indiegun (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OnoNITE-CLc&t=125s)
To create the outro, I added a text box and a PNG of the centre's logo and added a fade out effect to the segment. I also added an adjustment layer to tamper with the lighting and quality of some shots.
